Today is the South Carolina primary and I'm hoping that John Edwards does well. As you probably know, I'm a bit of a news junkie and I'm annoyed by how the main stream media covers politics. In the Democratic coverage they concentrate on Clinton and Obama with absolute tunnel vision. John Edwards deserves to be heard. He is the ONLY candidate who has consistently put the interests of the working class above the interests of big corporations. His message:
"I'm in this for the long haul, and the causes that I've engaged in — speaking for the people who don't have a voice, speaking for the uninsured, for people who live in poverty, for our veterans, for the men and women serving in Iraq — those are the causes of my life. And they're not going away. I'm in it for the long haul."
Check it out for yourself by clicking here to listen to a great interview on NPR or read the transcript. There are a number of other reasons I think John Edwards would be an excellent president, but his focus on economic and social justice is THE key issue. I feel like Edwards best represents what most deeply connects us as Americans - our belief in liberty and justice for all.
If you never read another thing on my blog, please read this letter from Martin Luther King, III. I'm glad I can quote someone much more eloquent than myself supporting the work of John Edwards.
"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one."
- John Lennon
